Remove AT Shift Cable

I have just put the rebuilt tranny in my 94 Z28 (my arms are killing me!) but can't get it to shift. The linkage is working all right up top, but under the car the outside of the cable has come loose.

It looks like the cable snaps into the plastic fitting I can see from above, but can't get the bottom part in or the fitting out. Anyone know how to do this? I have squeezed, pulled, twisted, etc. Below is a picture of the the part I am talking about. Sorry about the quality, I used my cell phone since I did not have my camera with me.

Thanks!

First pop it off the shifter handle with a screwdriver. Then press those 2 tabs on the sides in, and push towards the front of the car. You might have to remove the shifter assy. to completely remove it. It's been a while since I removed mine but it should come out relatively easy.

Thanks, I did not want to push or pull to hard since I was not sure what direction it was supposed to go. That helped me a lot, thanks again!
