Recommended Shifter and Install

This is for a Borg-Warner T56 in a 97 Z.

What is everyone's preferred shifter? The B&M or Pro 5.0 or other? I still have the stock (non-hurst) shifter and it really stinks.

Also where can I find an install guide (with pics would be cool, if not oh well...)?

Also any other insight that I'm forgetting, please chime in.

Thanks

Chris

I have used B&M, Hurst Billet, stock hurst, and Pro 5.0 shifters...the B&M/and Pro5.0 shifters were both in T5 trans, and the others were in T56 trans but should be generally the same. All felt good to me, I would say my preference would be the Hurst Billet, or Pro5.0...these felt slightly better to me, and both I used a short stick with. All are HUGE improvements over the stock shifter, and will provide much more positive shifts.

Have not tried a Pro 5.0 to compare, but so far really like the B&M in my car . Very solid shifter (keep in mind, it's a 1 piece shaft).

I enjoyed the B&M shifter in my car as well, the only thing i didn't like was the 1 piece shaft. Although the shifter height and placement is much improved, I am kinda picky about shifter placement....and not being able to change that is one thing that turns me away from the B&M. Just my $.02.

I'm going to install my new B&M shifter today! It's the old 2 piece one but it's brand new never used so I can change the shaft if I dont like it(Ebay). I'll tell you what I think and how hard it was.

Well that was fun!!!NOT!! It's hard to remove the center consel but when you get that out it's easy.I just followed the instructions that came with the shifter.
As for the shifter it is great, I love the feel when it shifts, so crisp and short!!! really easy to get 3rd too.

Good Luck

Well, I purchased a B&M, and it finally arrived today. I will be doing the install this weekend if weather allows. I'm also considering making my own gasket for it instead of using a bead of RTV, and also thread lock for the bolts and stops. Glad you like your shifter Sean, I'm sure I will as well.

Happy modding,

Chris
