Rebuilding the Pro 5.0 Shifter?
Rebuilding the Pro 5.0 Shifter?
I've noticed that my 10 year old shifter doesn't have the centering spring action it had when new. Anybody ever rebuild theirs? I just emailed partspro@live.com who looks to be the reps/manufacturer's of the Pro 5.0 shifter to see if they have a rebuild kit.
Pro50.com sells replacement springs (2) to rebuild the shifter. $25 (min purchase); rip-off price but still cheaper than a new shifter. Pro50 has a very limited product line so I didn't find anything else to buy to meet the $25 minimum.
Before I did that I'd go to a local fastner company like Fastenal, Grainger, ect. and find some springs that will work.
Or just spend the money for them from Pro.

McMaster Carr or Grainger and grab some springs that are the same physical dimension and replace them. I grabbed a few different rates when I did mine years ago and found a force I liked that worked. It was actually stiffer than the shifter in stock form, but I liked it better.
Re: Rebuilding the Pro 5.0 Shifter?
I rebuilt mine with the Pro50.com springs; could not tell any difference! I noticed that the springs sit on metal disks that interfaces with a cross rod mounted to the shift lever. I had a friend machine me a couple of matching disks that i used as spacers to increase the spring force. Worked like a champ!
