rearend: what breaks
rearend: what breaks
What usually breaks in a 10-bolt when it goes out? axles? gears? I've talked to 2 people about this, one says it's usually the axles and another says that it's the bearings and things. I don't want to get a 12-bolt right now, so if I could install some new axles and be ok then that would be cheaper than a new rearend. also what could I do to strengthen the old 10-bolt if I keep it?

Re: rearend: what breaks
The ring gear is usually what breaks. We have 7.5 inch ring gears. That is why people up grade to 8.8's, 12 bolts which are around 8.75ish, and 9inch's which are obviously 9inch ring gears.
