Rearend noise

Ok here it is i have a 94 z28 with 6 speed trans.
I had 3.42 rear gears and i swapped them for 4.10's
They went well for a couple of hundred miles and the carrier clutches went bad so i bought a used carrier and installed it with new bearings. after about 300 miles with it perfectly setup it started howling. I tore it all down put in new gears and ALL new bearings and seals. lasted another couple of hundred miles and it is whining again and now feels like it gets loose going down the road every once in a while. The setup was perfect i set it up with another technician at the gm dealer i worked at. I checked the pattern on the gears a short time after when it started whining again and there is a strange swirl type pattern on the teeth but it is in the right place. The two concerns may be seperate but would appreciate any input on either one. Thank you

Re: Rearend noise

What was your backlash when you checked it? Do you have a crush sleeve or solid pinion spacer in there? If you have a crush sleeve, I would suggest a solid pinion spacer instead. Keep you from mashing the crush sleeve when your pounding on it which will cause your set up to start going out.

Re: Rearend noise

I have a crush sleeve in there now.
The back lash was about 6 thousandths which was on the tight side but we had figured it would loosen a little with wear with the gears being new and all. Thanks for the help i'll try the solid spacer any more help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Rearend noise

Backlash could be too tight and it's causing the oil to break down.
