Just got my 4th camaro and need advice. This one is a 97 Z28 A4. I have never owned an auto before and want some better gears to make it more.....'snappy'. I dont want to be pushing 7k rpm's while driving 80 on the highway and dont want to lose much top end. Any advice? I know 4.10s are out, so which would be better. 3.73's or 3.42's? Thanks for any info you guys/girls may have.

3.73 will be roughly 2500rpm at 70. i run 3.73 but i think i will change to 3.42 soon. a little better for hwy use, and i.m right at the rev limit at the end of the traps with 3.73's.

 

I would get the 3.73's. 3k at 80MPH.

Also try a search on this issue, there are hundreds of posts on this issue you might find helpful.

 

Then you might not want to go 5.10's

3.73's will be around 3000 @80 maybe a tad higher.

Is it a daily driver? or just weekend? I have 3.73's ---if you only plan on street tires, then 3.42's will be enough. 3.73's, plan on drag radials and slicks. If you get the 3.73's and only go part throttle, then it's a waste because you give it up on the freeway and your not using it down low. but if you have 3.42's and go full throttle off the line....and you get good milage too. So it depends on the tire you want to run and whether you opimizing for every last .1 in the 1/4 or not.

 

I'd say there has been thousands of posts on this.......everyone goes through this dilema with the A4....myself including. The M6 is clear cut, you get the 4.10's since they have that 6th gear

 

Yeah I wish it were a T56 but it was a good deal so i jumped on it. It is a daily driver and I only plan on using 275\40\17's. So I dont have to worry about wanting to do 350mph in the 1/4. Just want to have enough in it to slam the doors on a few cars running around here. Thanks for all the input.
