Question Rear End Trouble

i was replacing my brake pads on the right rear wheel of my TA and when i removed the caliper i pulled slightly on the brake rotor and the whole AXLE shaft slid out of the axle housing. my car has 160000 i believe it just has to many miles and that the C clip just broke off anyone have any suggestions on what the problem is or any quick fixes

Re: Rear End Trouble

I would say it's pretty obviousl the retainer came off inside. I would take the cover off the rear and take a look to see what else is awry back there.

Re: Rear End Trouble

i say that one benefit to disc brakes over drums

if u had drums, u would have lost the entire wheel and axle when the retaining clip fell/broke
but your caliper kept ur axle together

hopefully the clip fell out and didnt do much harm in the case, if its intact u can find out why it failed, and replace it
if it did damage to the ring and pinion, assess the damage make sure u dont need to replace those
if the clip is there and u broke an axle shaft
well
u should have known already, and your posi (if equiped) has been overworked

Re: Rear End Trouble

Go to any shop that does rear ends. Quite a few 4x4 shops do this too.
