Rear end thud.

Whats up Fellas? Just recently i had my rear axle completely overhauled, new gears everything. I took the rear axle out of the car to be rebuilt. Now that i have the rear end back in my car new gears etc...everytime i make left turn there is a loud thud sound from the rear of my car. Im guessing there are 2 main possibilities for this. What i have been told is that it 1) could the driveshaft that goes out from the rear diff to the right rear wheel or 2) Because i had taken the rear out to have it overhauled mabye we didnt tighten something back up enough. Also, my friend and I put the rear axle in and tightened everything up while it was suspended in the air on jackstands. I was told last night i was supposed to get the rear end in , wheels on , put the car back on all 4's and tighten everything up like that ? That makes no sense? Advice?Thoghts? Thx

Re: Rear end thud.

Did you check the torque arm that goes from the axle to the side of the transmission, it might be bouncing. Other then that i'm stumped...

I'll check that, good idea. If that were loose, would it sound like it was coming from the rear of the car? Thanx!

Yeah, it would sound like that. To me though, it sounds like your tranny mounts. Check them for how tight they are. Also, I ripped one in half fairly easily after a gear install. Check the mounts.

check the LCA bolts while you're at it, they are notorious for making "clunking" sounds when making sharp turns, and sometimes just when driving straight you'll hear them slightly but they are most noticable on the sharp turns.
