Rear end gearing

Can anyone tell me the exactly, the difference in rear end gearing? Which is best for what. I have a 85 Z28 that is going to have a powerful 327 installed, and I want alot of torque and top end. Should I go with 3:73, 4:11 or anything else??

Cliff notes version: Numerically lower gives you more top end and mid range. Numerically higher gives you more bottom end.

Are you wanting to drag or road race? Auto or manual? How many gears? If an auto, consider your converter choice along with gears. What size tires?

The goal is really to keep your engine in it's power band which we don't know.

You can also over gear. 4.11 will feel strong, but it may limit traction too much and cause lower ET's because of slower 60's.
