Question Rear end/ driveshaft noises help

I had my foreman in my car (hes like 55 so cant play any music) and when i was slowing down, stopping and then first starting to accelerate there was this hollow clunking noise that sounded like gears grinding but then sliping apart. it didnt have a pattern just clunk... clunk clunk clunk clunk.. clunk ; and so on. From what I heard it only did it decelerating to a stop in 2nd and as I was letting off the clutch in first until ~ 15mph. sounded like the rear or driveline but sounded serious. Is my rear going out, and if it is and I swapped 3.73 (3.42's now) would this upgrade also get rid off the problem.
