Which rear end do I have?

I just got a 1997 M6 LT-1 (look at me with all this camaro speak!) and want to put in a 4.10 gear,I tried the motive site as an earlier post mentioned I just got a 1997 M6 LT-1 (look at me with all this camaro speak!) and want to put in a 4.10 gear ,I tried the Motive site as an earlier post mentioned , but their site was none too helpful.I work at a shop in Tacoma and we do business with Randy’s Ring and Pinion and wanted to know what size rear end is in car (someone also informed me the current ratio is most likely 3.42:1 as that is the stock ratio and this car is 99% stock) so I can do some research online as to price and availability. After reading a few posts I believe it is 7.5” 10-bolt. Also I am shopping for a shifter,am looking closely at the HURST 391-5060 as the **** is included ,it might be the 391-5061 ,I just remember it’s the chrome rod and black **** for 183.99 –if any of you have other suggestions please chime in but suggest one with **** included please-short throw and less than 200 bucks.I got the car Friday for $2K !!! What a country!!! Clean title runs strong-reverse issues, water leak issues ,bad tires and needs cat(s) , we can fix ALL that at work (I am a service writer at 19 bay Auto service center rhymes with FIRESTONE-LOL) so goodie for me !!!

If you go to thunderracing.com and email the guys at motive or strange, they will help you pick out which gears are best for you, and what series carrier you have. They will need the RPO code for the rear end off the options sticker on your door, it will be a code starting with "GU".

Welcome to the board. 3.73 and 4.11 are popular choices for a stock car. If you plan on making any real HP later you'll want to get a 12 bolt or 9 inch. The stock 10 bolt is hopelessly weak and the posi will give you terrible traction. I'm using a Moser 9" with 3.50 because I like the highway mileage and so I can get some sort of traction off the line. You've come to the right place for LT1 info. The search feature has years worth of good info on your "new" car.
