Re: Rear end

No one can tell me what year rear end will fit in my car why is this hard to believe. Ok or tell me what parts do I need to make it a posi and a 373 and the easiest way to go about this. I know I have to do a new ring and pinion but what else will I need.

Re: Rear end

Any 3rd gen that had the disc brake option from the factory will work. 3.73s were never offered as a gear option on these cars. 3.42 was the best you could get in the 10 bolts. If you want 3.73s then you must buy the gears and install kit and have someone install them. Are you running the stock wheels? if you have intentions of running a 4th gen fbody wheel in the future then you can install a rear end from a 93-97 Fbody car and you wont need to run 2" spacers on the back. Those rears are 4" wider overall.

I have a 4th gen posi rear with completely rebuilt and painted disc brakes for sale. it has 3.73s in it already. Shipping may cost a bit but you are going to pay either way.

Re: Rear end

Here is a 2-part article on strengthening the 10-bolt rear. Although it describes a 4th Gen rear, other then the fact the 4th Gen rear is 3" wider than the 3rd Gen rear, the parts (particularly the posi carrier) all mostly the same.

Are you sure your current rear does not have a posi? Check for RPO G80.

Here's an Eaton posi, about $550.

Eaton limited-slip differential - PN EAT19599

Torsen T2 Differential For Your 10-bolt Rearend - High Performance Pontiac Magazine

Fourth-Gen 10-Bolt, Part 2 - High Performance Pontiac Magazine

If you plan to go up in HP/torque, consider a used 12-bolt rear from Strange or Moser.

Re: Rear end

Re: Rear end

You are going to have some major issues with the 19x10" rear Corvette wheels, if they are the 79mm offset (OEM) wheels. They sit so deep in the wheel wells of a 4th Gen with it's wider rear axle assembly that they need 1.25" spacer/adapters. With a narrower 3rd Gen rear, you would be looking at spacing the wheels up to 3.0 to 3.5" from the axle hub flanges. Finding a 4th Gen rear would make more sense in that case.

All 4th Gen V8 cars have a rear axle with disc brakes and a limited slip rear.

Check the "sticky" posts on the Wheels and Tires forum. I think there is a thread regarding C6 wheels on a 3rd Gen.
