rear diff noise? Need some advice

Hye guys, I have a 1996 SS (automatic if that helps) Camaro. And when I'm at 2,500 RPMS... about to go into another gear I hear a load WHHAAA noise coming from the rear end. I believe its the diff. Anyways... I heard it could just be worn out bearings. Does this sound right? And have any of you guys had this problem??? THANKS

I had a similar noice that went on for a while, several months maybe, then I took a 300 mi highway trip & by the time I got back the noice was so loud you wouldn't believe it.Took it to the dealer, rear pinion bearings were bad, just got it back yesterday, $511 later & it's all better. It took about $100 or so in parts & the rest was labor, the whole rear has to be dis-assembled.Needless to say I'm not real happy about it,thinking about writing a letter to GM to see if they'll do anything, with only 44,000 mi on the car that should've never happened.Good luck, hope that's not your problem

sounds like bearings to me as well. probably pinion, but might be the wheel bearings.
