Question Rear axle work

My rear end is making some noise. I am almost certain it is the limited slip. I have always used Mobil 1 and GM l.s. additive. I ordered a new Auburn unit. (even if it isn't the problem, it never hurts to upgrade .) My question is: What will I/should I also replace when I have the thing torn apart. I have a T/A Perf. differental cover with the stud kit and new axle bearings/seals, too. If anyone has done this, any tricks of the trade would help greatly! Thanks!

Dave,

I have completed this same modification with 3.73 gears and the TA Cover (make sure you get a good seal mine leaked a litttle) ... at Spangdahlem on my 96 Z. I actually did it at Tony's workshop in Manhien. It took me and 2 other mechanics about 7 hours (lots of goofing off involved).. to complete the job. My only suggestion is to make sure all of your measurements are dead on! I came away with a SLIGHT whine.... but it gets to be annoying. But if you need any help to do it there is a guy over there that belongs to the F-Body Europe club that helped me with mine... their user names are ZBLKHELLRAZER (John) and GUARDSGT (Ryan). Hope this helps at all. Have fun over there in Germany I know I did.... especially on the A 60 heading twords Belgium. Later.

I've heard that a solid pinion spacer should be used to replace the stock crush sleeve. My crush sleeve and pinion seal have been replaced 2 times under warranty. My pinion is now loose and leaking again at 5000 miles without any races, so I plan to just redo it my self and install the solid pinion spacer.

Thanks for the info, fellas. I will try to get ahold of those guys on fbody.org. We have a guy that works in our section that is also a ASE mech. He said he would give me a hand, too. I will probably order new pinon bearings just to be safe. I hate tearing into something more than once.
