rear axle oil? what brand you use
it is time for the rear axle oil change. its making a clunking noise on sharp turns. Just curious as to what kind of rear axle oil everyone uses. I have heard Torco is good stuff.
and for the procedure all you need besides tools:
*new gasket
*new oil
*gm additive
right?

Re: rear axle oil? what brand you use
your right for the GM additive as I found out
Thought I would change the rear gear oil got some synthetic Mobil 1, and some "limited slip" additive from Autozone. Did the change and at the same time I did my back brakes.
Soon after the car wold "jerk" around sharper corners at low speeds say at a stop sign or turning into my street. After checking the brakes and rear I narrowed down to the rear end thought it might be on the way out so I took it to a GM dealer they serviced with all GM oils and additive and has been smooth ever since.

Re: rear axle oil? what brand you use
i used lucas oil heavy duty 80-90W with the additive aurburn sent me, i woulda used syn but auburn recommended non-syn. i also accidentally bought some gm additive or 7 bucks. just remember for every quart of gear lube you need 3oz of limited slip additive.

LE is the best, but expensive. Lucas is the next in line. Torco was "once" a very good oil, but they changed their formula........ and always add the GM posi additive.

Re: rear axle oil? what brand you use
I used some Castrol non synthetic gear oil of the correct viscosity , I put this same stuff in the final drive on my bike. Just plain ole Castrol and the Gm additive of course.
edit: works fine, great, no problems
