Rear Axle Moving!

Well I have a slight issue with the rear on my car. I recently noticed a scrape/screeching noise from my driver side caliper. I took it apart today and noticed that the caliper was rubbing the rotor. I took the caliper off to see if there was any damage and then noticed the axle pulls out about 1/4" but then stops. My wheel can move back and forth in the wheel well! There's way to much play which is causing the rotor to move out and hit the caliper!

I searched the forum and came across this thread. The problem is identical to what I have:
http://f-body.com/forum/showthread....ight=axle+moves

The guy noted at the end that it was the posi unit. Do you think this is what happened to my car? I need to know what I should do in this scenario. I don't have the money to buy an Eaton Posi unit. Which posi unit will work in my car used... 93-02 z28/ss? I can find a low mileage unit on ebay.

While I'm in their I'm going to swap the 3.73's for 4:10's. All of the bearing and seals were done about 35000 miles ago too, should I replace them?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

uh 4.10 is not a good idea...they tend to explode under stress...i grenaded one in about 3 months and i even blew the stock 3.42 about a week ago...the 3.73 isnt bad but my ring was perfectly smooth and my pinion was half missing...just a word of caution

Could be as simple as a worn c-clip.

This is the exact problem I'm having with my 96 Z28. EXACTLY. What parts of the posi can be replaced and where can you get those parts? I don't have the funds to get a whole new posi at this time either.

BTW, the link in the first post didn't work for me so, I can see what that guy had to say about the posi.

I have the same problem in mine. I asked around and a mechanic actually told me these rear ends initially do have play in them.
And shoe box not under minding you but someone told me it could be a worn c-clip.
and then someone else told me that c-clips dont "wear down".
The c-clip is there or its not.
Because if you take that clip out your rear end will just slide right out so obviously it has to be there.

The c-clip is harder than the metal it rides against, and it has a sharp side and a rounded side - the sharp side can wear the metal it rides against.

Well, I did not say it wasn't there, lol. You get the idea, though. Worn at the c-clip area. I guess that could include the axle and side gear. How's that? Maybe I should just shut-up while I'm behind, lol.
