rear axle end play

I have a 96 Z28. The rt rear axle moves in and out quite a bit.

Does anyone know the spec / tolerance ??

........ and then how I could fix or adjust it?

You may have a worn C-clip, there is no other "adjustment" for end play. The C-clips ride in a groove at the end of the axle(not the outside end, but the end inside the center section) and when they wear, you can get a lot more end play. I don't know if there is a spec for allowable end play, but I would think .030-.060 would be more than enough....but then again I've never heard of anybody having to replace the axles or C-clips due to excessive end play. Have you measured it, and how much is "quite a bit"?

I have not measured it yet. Just noticed it last night on the lift. I replaced the LR axle and all bearings and seals on both sides. I ordered another axle today for the other side. Maybe the groove is worn. i will get another c-clip --do you know the part number? or does NAPA know maybe?

Don't know the part #, but they've gotta be pretty easy to find. If not Napa, then the dealer...as long as they don't want to charge you like $30 for a c-clip

They don't call them "stealerships" for nothing

I am still curious to find out what the allowed spec is for rear axle movement in and out.
