ratchet shifter?

i see all these threads about people who put ratchet shifters in 4th gen a4s but i also see threads about how its bad to manualy shift a stock a4? i want to put a ratchet shifter in my 93 but i dont want to damage anything, would it be best to put a manual valve body in it? what is the difference between a manual valve body and a reverse manual vavle body? is it just that with a reverse one u pull the shifter back to upshift and with a regular one u bump it forward to upshift?
also would a manual vavle body eliminate overdrive? or is it just like having a 4 speed?

Re: ratchet shifter?

You Do Not Need A Manual Valve Body....

A Manual Vb Goes P R N 4 3 2 1

A Reverse Manual Vb Goes P R N 1 2 3 4

You Will Still Have 4.th With A Manual Vb

Re: ratchet shifter?

DO A SHIFT KIT AND YOU'LL BE FINE.

NOT A BED IDEA TO DO THE:

Elevated Pressure Regulator Spring

throttle valve elevated pressure spring

low / reverse boost valve

heavy 1-2 accumulator spring

Re: ratchet shifter?

4th gens have 4L60e's. not 700r4's. and yes, its not good to manually shift a 4L60e because it creates too much line pressure.

Re: ratchet shifter?

93's have a 4l60 or also called a 700r4 not a 4l60e. You can also put in a manual/automatic vavlebody like i have. If you put it in drive it will shift itself or you can shift the car threw the gears.

old link, but i was searching.
incorrect info.
a reverse manual valve body shifts this way.
it is the only one available for the R4 and 60e so yes, it will shift as you post, but other trannys still have the regular forward motion, even with a manual valve body.
its just this particular tranny that is fubar.
