RAM HDX Clutch Disc Died on me, for no apparent reason
I installed a RAM HDX clutch about 10,000 miles ago, if that on my Z28. Since that time, I have never raced the car, or launched it hard. Its a daily driven vehicle and the majority of the miles on it are highway, traveling from NC to Baltimore on a regular basis, as well as up to Conneticut and back multiple times.
Three days ago I noticed a bit more chatter than usual in my clutch. I disregarded it though, thinking it was because of the cold weather. The next day, I try to pull my car out of a parking space and it shutters and acts like it wants to die when I come to a stop. Then, I cant get the car into gear. I knew something was up with the clutch... I thought maybe the pressure plate had collasped or the hydraulics had gone bad.
To make a long story short, I have the car towed to a tranny shop and have it inspected. It turns out, 3 of the springs on my clutch disc were broken, and one had fallen out of the disc and become jammed up in my pressure plate. How this happpened I have no idea, and I wanst too happy. If I had abused the clutch I wouldnt complain. The stock clutch went over 100,000 miles with maybe 10 track passes, and wasnt dead when I replaced it. I did so thinking I was taking care of the car and diong pre-emptive maintainance. How this clutch died so fast and catostrophically I have no idea...
I will post some pics as soon as I get a chance. I'm hoping that RAM will be willing to help me out.
