Quick: Should I get a new driveshaft?

Track rental on Dec 17th, trailering the car 3 hours from home for this. I will be flashing the stall on a 100 shot on Mickey Thompsons. I want to know if my LS1 driveshaft will hold up...I don't want to go all the way there and make 1 or 2 passes, I want to make more like 19-20.

How many A4 guys out there have busted the 1LE/LS1 aluminum driveshaft?

Matt,

What Mickey Thompson"s??? ET Street, ET Drags, Drag Radials???

With Drag Radial I think you will be fine...

ET Streets there is a possibility of twisting it if the hook...

ET Drags I would upgrade before going...

BTW, Let me know if you decide to upgrade I know someone who might want/need the LS1 shaft if the price is right...

Re: Quick: Should I get a new driveshaft?

They're ET Street Radials (the new drag radials), but the track I'm going to is one of the best in the country, and it hooks like CRAZY. I'm thinking I might put my stock steel driveshaft in for now. What would be a good price for the LS1 shaft? I think I paid around $125 for it, but it's been a few months so I don't remember.

Re: Quick: Should I get a new driveshaft?

since your running drag radials even on a well preped track will still not hook as hard as the other tires, so I wouldn't worry about it.. Besides since your trailering the the ca down just bring the steel one as a backup...

Don't forget to get good pics while your there though....

Oh yeah, not sure about a good prics for the d-shaft, I would have to ask my buddy what he is willing to pay I just knew that he might be looking for one...

My photographer friend is coming with me, and he will get some launching pics.

Looks like my friend has a Denny's driveshaft from his old Z28 that I can get cheap....

I would imagine that the LS1 shaft would hold up better than a stock steel one. If you dont get that one from your friend, I would use the LS1 shaft.

Nope, me and a friend twisted his in two with nitto's(ls1, alum) and we had another friend go to my house and get my driveshaft from my car(LT1, steel) and bring it to us. Its been like that ever since. He was just lucky my car is tore apart so he could use my driveshaft.

I have seen lots of both broken. Between my 94 and the old formula i have busted a few stock ones. I switched to an aluminum one made at the local driveline shop and never had another problem. Both were stick cars, I would think the LS1 shaft coupled with an auto should take 100 shot fine.

I broke my 1LE in half on the dyno...I got a custom 3" steel one that F-body Central runs on their 9 second cars...Well worth the $$...and don't under estimate the M/T Drag Radials...I hook 1.55 60's consistently with 255 50 R16s...
