Question about replacement Auburn differential

I am going to replace my differential, and I'm wondering if I bought the same exact model auburn, would I be able to just swap over the ring gear and side shims and put new bearings on it and install it in my car, or will this mess up my backlash and require me to set up my ring and pinion again?

Thanks in advance,
James

Re: Question about replacement Auburn differential

It would be close for sure and maybe just right. I would still check the backlash and the gear contact patch. I would think the tolerances on the carrier are not that close to one another. That's why there are shims just a few thousands thick to compensate.
