Question on 9 inch

I have seen that in the group purchase section that 98 and newer have to send in their brakebacking plates to get the bearing pressed on( I think). Anyway do I have to worry about this with my 95. How are the axles held into place. My rear is showing up tommorow and Ijust wanted to get a heads up on assembling it. Thanks

Re: Question on 9 inch

Short answer: Yes, you need to take your backing plates off your 10 bolt before you get the bearing pressed onto the axles.

Your 10 bolt, just like the 98 up, has c clips which go on the tip of the axle to retain them inside the spider gears in the differential. This is why if you see a stock fbody break an axle at the track the wheel will 'walk' out of the housing.

With a c clip eliminator kit (included / stock on the moser 9") the wheel bearing is attached securely to the axle instead of the housing. A fundemental part of this design is that the wheel bearing must be pressed on over the brake mounting plate. When the plate is bolted onto the end of the housing it then holds the bearing which holds the axle in place.

I see the potential for another moser shim debacle......

He purchased the axle from me, I just wanted to see if anyone else knew.
Don't get cocky, I'm a licenced axle mexhanic and I have worked at AAM for the past 5.5 years cutting gears for the 8.6 in chevrolet trucks. And yes I have installed about 9 so far.
