Proper way to adjust shift cable?

I finished a TH400 swap, and am running a TCI transbrake as well. I was running a TH350, however it slipped bad everytime I hit WOT.

My issue is I ran out of adjustment with my cable, but it is shifting good and hard from 1st to 2nd, but it seems to take a bit to shift into 3rd (this is a manual shift with the Transbrake) and it isn't a hard shift. I can't really tell the 2-3 shift, but I do have a pretty loose converter with 3.50:1 gears so it revs pretty good on the highway. What is the proper way to adjust the cable? If I need to do more adjustments I will have to enlongate the holes on the plate that mounts to the pan. With the TH350 I just kept adjusting the cable until I got all 3 gears immediately with the shifter. I am running a B&M Pro stick.

Well I did some searching and the general conscensus is to put the shifter and the transmission in nuetral and get the slack out of the cable and get it to line up with no slop. I will try this and report back.
