Ok i just did the a4 to m6 swap and have a couple of questions. First of all i started the car to see if it would go into gears. The clutch pedal would not go in so i turned the car off and checked the slave cylinder. Well took it off and that clutch fork is lose i can move it by hand from back to front. My question is whats wrong with it and do i have to take the transmission back out. Need help bad. Dont know whats wrong with the fork

Re: Problems with transmission

You should be able to move it around a little bit, but if you push it with you finger, it should be level with the opening on the bellhousing. If you can push it in further, then you probably don't have it in right.

Re: Problems with transmission

It hooks up to the throw out bearing on the pressure plate.

Take a look here. You can see how mine is installed in the background.

Re: Problems with transmission

A couple more pictures: (blurry, but you can see what kind of movement is normal for a properly installed fork. You can pull it out a bit, but it shouldn't go in more than you saw in the first picture)

Re: Problems with transmission

Ok thats my main problem then. I will have to fix that. Also i got a spec stage 3 clutch. One more question is can that clutch only go in one way. Because i dont know if he put that in right or not. It was a used clutch and both sides looked fine to me.

Re: Problems with transmission

That's what I have too. The side sticking out should be facing the engine.

Re: Problems with transmission

I would try to install the fork correctly first. If you still don't get any results, then I would be looking into pulling it out. Is your hydraulics new? If not, did you bleed it?

Re: Problems with transmission

Pull it out first, then play with it until it goes in all the way and it looks like in my first picture. Did you put any grease on its ends before putting the tranny in?

Re: Problems with transmission

So you can take the clutch fork out without taking the transmission out and yes there is grease on it.

Re: Problems with transmission

You don't take it out all the way, just grab the end and pull it out in the same direction (away from the bellhousing, not towards you). Then once it's out, you want to install it by pulling the end some towards you so that the other ends go on the bearing, then you move it around and try to push it in until you get it to look like in that first picture.

Re: Problems with transmission

I was able to do it without disconnecting the transmission. Give that a try first.
