Problem after clutch install...
Problem after clutch install...
So one day I pulled in to park and my car stalled and pedal went to the floor. Would not go into any gears. So I replaced the slave and bled the system...didn't fix it....so I had a new clutch put in. The old throwout bearing was toast. I got an OEM replacement clutch kit from O'Reillys, and a McLeod 7500rpm disc.
Had the "shop" do the install...afterwards it is driveable but hard to get into gear. Master cyl was spittin at my foot. So I put a new master cyl in and bled it. Then put yet another slave in and bled it and bled it.
Now here's my symptoms... with the car off, it will go into all gears fine. When it is started, idling, it's extremely hard to go into any gear, especially reverse. And unlike before, I have to press the clutch to the floor, and it starts to grab like an inch off the floor. When im idling, clutch in, trying to put it in reverse, it will try to go backward, once i finally pop it in to gear, it doesn't roll. If I sit there with the clutch in and rev to 5500, the car doesn't move.
When Im driving it, it will shift from gear to gear fairly easy, but not normal. When the guy was putting the tranny back up in there, it slid in easily except for the last half inch or so, then they pulled it in with the bolts.
So it's got new master, slave, clutch, resurfaced flywheel, new throwout bearing, new pilot bushing, and mcleod disc...and its hard as hell to get into any gear, almost impossible to get into reverse, and takes barely any pedal travel off the floor to start moving, not normal.
It also seems now when taking off I have a popcorn noise coming from down there.
ANY IDEAS??

The problem is that the clutch isn't disengaging completely (for whatever reason). I had the exact same symptoms when I installed my McLeod dual performance clutch with a SPEC billet flywheel. I guess the tolerances were stacked up, because of the different manufacturers of the components, so the clutch wouldn't quite disengage completely.
What I did first to try and cure the problem was to remove the little rubber pad on the clutch pedal lever where it bottoms out against the stop on the floorboard. That helped some but it still wasn't 100%. Next, I filed a small notch in the metal stop on the floorboard to give the pedal a little more travel. That did it, no more clutch disengagement problem

Update: Well I bled it over and over and that didn't help. Checked the movement of the pushrod on the slave while someone else pressed the clutch in. It moves fine. So I what I did was remove that "cup" that bolts on between the bellhousing and the slave, so I was able to bolt the slave down farther so it's closer to the shift fork. Now my pedal feels normal and it will shift into gear fine. ... with that "cup" off.
So maybe my clutch fork got bent? Or is the McLeod disc thicker than an oem disc?
??
