Pro 5.0 is it worth it?
Pro 5.0 is it worth it?
ok guys i have a 93 z and i hate HATE HATE 3rd gear i have missed it several times .... although i have only about 1-2 months of seat time w/ a standard tranny... (i bought a m6 and didnt know how to drive it lol) Ok back to the point ..... how is the 2/3 shift?
Re: Pro 5.0 is it worth it?
The first mod I did was the shifter on mine. The stock one sucks big time. Any aftermarket shifter is gonna make the 2-3 shift a piece of cake. I have the B&M ripper but the Pro 5.0 seems to be very popular or the hurst.
Re: Pro 5.0 is it worth it?
Yea I hate the stock shifter as well. Everyonce and a while it just wants to go between 3rd and 5th. Sucks when you are racing. I plan on upgrading to the Pro 5.0 soon.
Re: Pro 5.0 is it worth it?
In my opinion no, unless you simply want a shifter that is adjustable and has a following of loyal enthusiasts.
My 2001 had the factory option Hurst. I bought a short stick and that eliminated the rubbery action and gave a shorter throw. I then bought a Pro 5.0 and ended up with pretty much the same feel as the $20 short stick on the Hurst.
The trick to making the 2-3 shift is an open palm with elbow out. Even the Hurst will naturally flash into third if you don't "hold" the shift ****.
The real culprit in missed 3rd shifts is the restriction in the slave cylinder hydraulic line. This needs to be drilled out. I did it with mine and the clutch has no lag as it did before.
What I didn't like about the Pro 5.0 is that I had to cut the rubber cover that fits over the floor. If I want to go back to my Hurst for some reason, I will need to buy a new floor boot.
Owning a Pro 5.0 is a bit of a prestige thing. You will have the highest quality shifter on the market. I'm not knocking it but I wouldn't buy it again.
Regards

Re: Pro 5.0 is it worth it?
I have a '95 Z28 and have never had a problem missing. But I did want a shorter more crisp shift. So I made a short stick at work and bought a hurst white ball **** and I love it. Oh yeah, I also removed that rubber crap that keeps the vibration down.
