I recently picked up a lightly used Pro 5.0 shifter and it has some kind of a black grease in it top and bottom. There is also a bit of dirt in the top, so I would like to clean it up and re-lube it if required.

What can I safely clean this out with? Brake cleaner? Would taking the bolts out of the top be recommended?

Does it need to be lubed with anything? If so, what should I use?
