A friend and I “may” have set a 4L60E World Record ET, but not an ET at the track! Yesterday we removed the 4L60E from my Z28, completely dissembled, rebuild the transmission, reinstalled it and had it running again in less-than four hours (about 3 hours 30 minutes actual). That time also included a quick trip to the auto parts store to get four additional quarts of Mobile-1, synthetic ATF.

Ok, my friend does have a performance transmission shop and the only problem was a damaged rear sprag, but that was still really fast by my standards. Also, the transmission was completely rebuild late last summer and the sprag was the only real problem. However, you have to "completely disassemble" the transmission to get to the rear sprag.

Let me know if anyone has a lower ET than 3 hours 30 minutes. I may have just set the 4L60E world record yesterday, LOL!

Me and 2 friends once replaced a powerglide in a 66 Nova in 20 minutes with air tools.

 

Yes, 20 minutes is really fast for a PG swap, but you didn't completely disassemble and reassemble (rebuild) a 4L60E in the process. So, I still have the record and no real challenges to that record just yet! However, I’m sure someone is really wanting to take that record away from me!

We just thought that it was really fast for the PG swap. We were in a hurry to go drink beer.

 

When working on automatic transmissions. It's definitely better to drink the beer after the project is finished and not during. After I got my 4L60E fixed and back in the car, I had a few beers to unwind and celebrate!

Damn that's fast, I thought I was fast R&R'ing a 4L60E on my back in 3 hours lol.

By R&R'ing i mean remove and replace of course.. no rebuilding, I let Frank do that

 

I also couldn't believe we finished it that quick! And, it was done in a performance transmission shop, with my friend (the transmission guru) doing the actual transmission disassembly/reassembly. I've removed and reinstalled the transmission several times now (mostly T/C changes), so I've really got the routine down. We were also using a swing-arm lift and professional shop equipment which helped.
