please Help! Tranny experts inside...

I just finished installing a 700R4 in my 92. I just finished rebuilding the unit with $900 of high performance parts, I used a technical video to help me go through it step by step.

Well I put 6 quarts in the tranny, started it for 20 seconds and then added another 5 quarts like the video said. On the second start up I could feel all the drive gears kick in hard but I had no reverse, I checked the level and it was low so I added another quart and ahalf. And still no reverse!!! What is going on??

To make things worse the kick that it did have in drive went away and and I have to get on the gas to get it to move even alittle bit. Also the dip stick is getting real hot.

Can someone please help me this is soo depressing!!!

Well I found out what it was, one of my valves in my pump blew out. I was thinking that maybe the filter fell off and wasn't supplying any pressure to the system, so I took off the tranny pan and when I looked in the bottom the valve an spring was sitting there.

The spring clip that holds it in must not have been seated right when I put it back together. I put the valve back in and made sure it was seated good, put more fluid in and started it. Now everything works fine.

The only thing that scares me is what kind of damage was done when it was running and the valve was at the bottom of the pan. When I took the fluid out it already had a pretty dark tint to it. I am going to flush the system and run new fluid so I can keep an eye on the color.

One thing I did notice is that after it was running right and I took it for a test drive I checked the fliud level and the dipstick was real hot, Is that normal?
