Do you want to do it yourself or have a transmission place do it? My car is on a lift right now in PA getting the 4L60E built to take 650hp. Its got all knids of of goodies inside...The company is Dr. Trans in Hanover 717-633-6607 (Rick)...specializes in 700-R4s and 4L60E's....He's doing it for $1900...I would call reputable transmission places for advice...I spoke with Eric Shertz from Dynotech, techs from Lingenfelter, Carl Rossler, and folks at Art Carr....ATI sells good rebuild kits also...GMHTP recently had some good articles, too...they used Eric Shertz from Dynotech..

Go to http://www.pro-built.net/index.cfm?f...t&productid=48 and see if this is what you want/need. I would add the HD sleeved input drum, to get the HP rating up to around 625 - 650. The drum sells for $210.00. Let me know if I can be of help?

Had my built by Pro Built and I'm very happy with the trans. I can highly recommend getting your trans through this guy. He knows his stuff..Originally Posted by Pro Built Automatics

Unless you are damn good at remembering where parts go, there are a crap load of little pieces in the 4L60E and some can be simple to put back in the wrong place and mess the tranny up, then I wouldn’t recommend doing it yourself. These things are much harder to rebuild then a 350, I originally thought about doing it myself, I then came to my senses and sent it out to get built right!
I sent mine Frank @ CPT (link is in my sig) and he let me watch him do everything. It was amazing how many things went into these tranny's. Everything down to the fact that there are 2-3 different length bolts for the valve body alone and if you put them in the wrong way they have the ability to mess up the trans fluid flow so everything will look correct then the next thing you know the trans doesn't work.
If anything, I recommend calling Frank to get his insight, he knows a lot and has been building tranny's for more then 14 years. He might even be able to recommend a kit for the do-it-yourselfer.

Thanks, John. I just noticed you need to change the time in your sig.Originally Posted by 1SlowFormula

As for a rebuild kit. I can't really think of any in a complete package. I source my parts out from many different manufactuerers....Right down to the clutches. Some come from Borg-Warner, and some come from Raybestos, and my 2-4 bands come from Alto. Performance parts come from Fairbanks, Sonnax, and a few other places. I also don't even use a "boxed" shift kit in my 700/60E's. If you really know how a transmission works, you shouldn't need one.
It's kinda like engine parts. I think Edelbrock makes one of the best SBC intake manifolds available...but...I wouldn't want one of their carburetors or throttle bodies on my go cart
