Where is this release I've heard about that lets the parking brake lever go up high enough to allow removal of the console? I'm trying to install a new shifter.

Down near where the handle pivots there's a half moon shaped gear. As you pull up on the handle it engages and pulls the cable up. What you need to do is take a skinny screwdriver an stop the gear from engaging. The handle will pull up easy.
