Noisy PRO50 shifter
Noisy PRO50 shifter
The day I put this shifter on I could hear a slight ringing/humming sound in 6th gear. 46K miles on the car. After about 4K miles I could hear it in 5th, and shortly after that 4th. Then it got loud enough do drive me crazy. Local tranny shop said probably bearing going out. I sent the trans to Tickshift. They said everything looked good and they did a nice rebuild. Still made the noise. Tickshift said it might be the shifter "wearing in." I thought they were crazy until I drove the car without the shift **** and there is NO noise. Tried an aftermarket **** that is held on with set screws and got only slighter better results. Seems like the weight of the **** is causing a resonance. Anyone have a similar experience?
Re: Noisy PRO50 shifter
Never heard of that exactly...
The Pro-5.0 shifter and similar aftermarket shifters use a solid shaft where the stock shifter has a rubber isolator built into it. The isolator takes a lot of the normal vibration of the transmission out of the ****, but with the shaft being solid those normal vibrations are transmitted directly up into the **** so you'll feel it a lot more. (This will be amplified even more with a poly transmission mount).
Never heard of the **** having an effect on anything. I ran a 2.25" billet **** on my shortened Pro 5.0 for years; and just had the normal vibe that I described above.

Re: Noisy PRO50 shifter
I think it's normal trans noise I'm hearing but it only comes through the shifter when the **** is tightly attached. Several people have heard it, including a couple of guys from New Era Performance and they haven't seen the problem before. I think I'll contact the manufacturer and see if they have any suggestions.
