No reverse in A4 - need advise

When i try to back up the car it will not go unless you bring give it gas then it bucks and jerks pretty violently. All of the forward gears are fine. The weird thing is I put the car in neutral to try to push it backwards but the car would not move, as if the e-brake was engaged. The e-brake is not seized or causing any interference. Again all the forward gears are fine, just reverse is locked up... Car only has 45k, 1998 Z, any chance of this being electrical or is time for a new trans?? Thanks in advance. KM

I'm not to expirienced in the drivetrain field but had two buds who had the same problem and had to have rebuilds. Hopefully thats not the problem though. Good luck.

My friend had this porblem with ha 94TA auto, we had to puch it, the clutch plates are burned out. You need to have it rebuilt. Take it to a tranny shop, around $1,000 to fix, almost like changing a clutch. But yeah, there is no fixing it without taking the trans out to fix it

A friend of mine had this happen to his Grand Am. It would go forward and not reverse. We even tried pushing it and it wouldn't go backwards in R or N. End up having to buy a whole new tranny.
