Lightbulb Newbie w/ Q

Hey all, I'm new to the chevy world and have an opportunity to buy a retired state trooper camaro w/ an auto, v8, and 116,000mi for around 6k. The car is in excellent shape inside and out except for one thing... The car won't shift into OD or D but it'll shift into reverse, 2nd, 1st, and park. Is there a simple fix for this or will it need some major work. Also do you guys with 6k is a decent price? the min. bid is 500 but I want to win the car if I bid on it. All input is apperciated, Thanks

What year???? Kelly Blue Book Value

Police cars take a beating... The trans probably needs to be rebuilt... Cost 900~1500 dollars

I'm sorry I thought I did
It's a '99
White a real sharp car it's just got that one problem.
Are '99 autos pretty reliable?

Do you mean the shifter won't go into D / OD, or when you're driving, with the shifter in either D / OD, it won't actually shift beyond 2nd?? Chances are the tranny needs a rebuild! (3rd and 4th might be shot ).

The shifter will move to the OD and D position but the car acts like it's in neutral; you can even sit there and rev the engine and nothing happens. but if you shift into reverse, 2nd, or 1st it works fine.

Tranny's dead. If you can get it fixed for a reasonable price, and it doesn't make the car a bad deal, then go for it. Otherwise, seek a new car! That's what happens (or can happen) with the 4L60E.....1st and 2nd work, 3rd and 4th die.

Re: Newbie w/ Q

Trade in value is around 5,200 Retail is around 9,000..... For a police car with that low miles, might be a good deal.... Just check the car over real good for former damage.... IE factory welds(are they there), check the rear insides of the rear quarter panel(where the spare tire is) to see if its been replaced, ETC...

You know you out around 900~1500 for a trans...

Well it looks I won't be able to get the car after all. I don't make enough money to get the loan I need to purchase the car . Maybe next time.
Thanks for all of your input guys.
