In need of some help and advise???

well here we go the past few weeks i have been in contact with a seller from this link

https://www.camaroz28.com/forums/par...rt-out-875674/

I bought 3 parts from him

1. The front and rear sway bars
2. The level 2 springs
3. The SLP upgraded rear end

I verified the GM p/n on the sway bars and the were a perfect match 32mm front and 19mm rear then I looked up the p/n's for the front and rear springs (F 22077195)(R 22077420) it turns out they were not the level 2 springs so whats springs came on the 96-97 SS and WS6?and why would these be on a SS? so now I was wondering about the rear end if it was really from a 96 SS so I took some pics

I was a bit disappointed in the springs not being the ones I been looking for so I decided to pop the cover off to see what I got but the the sad thing is i never seen this diff before? the diff itself did not have any markings the ring gear had this p/n 12.41-26050890 and the pinion gear had 26050889-12.41-gm-7-5/8 can anyone confirm what gear set this is? does anyone recognize this diff? and if so is this the upgraded SLP unit that should have came in the 96-97 SS?

Once any advise or info on this setup would help me greatly thx

By the numbers, the rear gears are GM 3.42s and the dif looks to be a Torsen.

ok great i wanted to make sure it's a 3.42 but i was wondering is this the slp upgraded auburn unit or is the torsen just another name for it? and where does it stand compared to the stock rear end's that were used in the camaro's and firebird when it comes to reliability and performance?

Re: In need of some help and advise???

Auburn and Torsen are two different types of limited slip differentials. The Auburn would be preferred for drag racing, the Torsen is better for road racing/auto-x.

To verify the gear ratio, count the teeth on the ring gear, and divide by the number of teeth on the pinion gear.

The problem with the stock 10-bolt rear reliability is not the limited slip units. It's the fact that it has a small 7.5" ring gear. OK for stock applications, increased chance of failure as HP/torque and traction increase. The SLP rear is the same 10-bolt as any other V8 F-Body in that respect.

I think the SLP Level 2 springs were a non-GM aftermarket spring, so not sure they would have a GM part number?

The Owners Manual indicates - GL5 80W-90, 2 quarts. Not sure if that is the same for the Torsen. The typical clutch and cone units need 4 ounces of the GM limited slip (LSD) differential additive. Not sure about that with the Torsen either, since it relies on worm gears.
