Exclamation Need help to remove tranny on 99 Camaro Z28

Ok so here is the 411,

Not too long ago the tranny on my automatic 99 Z28 went out.

I finally found a friend that had a tranny available, he recently rolled his car and he sold him his tranny off his Z28. Its kinda nice, semi new with Corvetter Servos, upgraded shift kit and updgraded clutch.

Well he finally remeoved everything around the tranny and all the bolts surrounding the tranny.

im not en expert yet on Camaros and someone on a local forum informed me that i need to unbolth the torque converter from the flex plate.

Is this true?

also how do i unbolt the Torque Converter from the Flex Plate?

Tips and Good Help is much appreciated

I can't wait to get my camaro running it has been down since March.

Its about time that it drives.

here is a pic of my Mero

Access the three bolts that attach the converter to the flexplate from the bottom after removing the dust cover located in front of the transmission pan. You will need to remove the first bolt, rotate the engine 120 degrees (until the next bolt comes into view), remove that one, rotate the engine again, and remove the last one. When all three are out, you should be able to slide the torque converter away from the flexplate about 3/16". At that point, the converter will come out of the car along with the transmission. When the trans is on the ground, you can pull the converter out straight forward. There will be a substantial amount of fluid on the ground if you're not careful.

Check <http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech1.html> to see if Shoebox has any pictures. Shoebox is the man!!!

Good luck,

On an LS1 you need to remove the starter to access the TC bolts instead of the dust cover (there is none). As stated above there's 3 bolts so you'll need to rotate the motor till each bolt comes into the ''window'' where the starter was.

Al,

Good catch! I neglected to note the year of the car.

Sick,

Sorry to mislead you. I have no related experience on an LSx combination. My world stopped turning when the LTx went out of production.

Helpful hint....

We have specific forums to help with specific problems. There is a "Drivetrain" forum, and that probably would have been a better choice. Definitely not an "Advanced Tech" forum. I'll move your post to "Drivetrain".

[EDIT] And PLEASE do not post the same question on multiple forums.
