Exclamation need help! major clutch problem (long)

i just got done installing my new slp clutch with the pressure plate and all that good stuff. and i had my flywheel re-surfaced. when i was bolting everthing back up i stared by bolting in the flywheel first, tighted to specs. oh i replaced the rear main while i was in there too. next i packed the pilot bearing with grease, then greased the inputshaft. then went up the clutch disk and pressure plate with the alignment tool in it. got it all lined up, then tighted that down. pulled uo the alignment tool. next went up the bell housing. after that, i lifted the tranny into place, mind you the clutch fork was still bolted onto the tranny, but it was able to slide around on that little clip thats built into the fork. once i got the dowls from the bellhousing and tranny lined up, the input shaft slid right in. once in place i pushed the clutch fork onto the throwout bearing. after that everything else went together pretty easy. okay, now everything is all back together, fluids all topped off.

Now i start the car up while its still on the lift just a few feet of the ground, put it in gear and i go through a couple of gears to make sure nothin is making any funny noises. which at this time. its not. But this is were the problems are about to start. I drive home about ten miles away from the shop were i was working on my car. it feels fine, but im still getting used to the new clutch and stalled it once or twice. but as i near my house, i notice that when i press the clutch in all the way, im hearing a metal on metal srcaping sound. and as it got louder, it became harder to shift.
I want to say that its something to do with the slave cyclinder, or the clutch fork, but i need some experianced advice please

rob

You need to open it up and see what's going on. Something is binding up the drivetrain and you can't really do anything about it unitl you crack open the bellhousing and take a look.

Good luck.

I had kinda the same problem when i put in my clutch last weekend it would make this horrible grinding sound when the clutch pedal was to the floor. I had put in an adjustable master cylinder with the clutch and adjusted it until the grinding went away so hopfully the clutch will be fine.

I think it was pushing the pressure plate too far open and it started to hit somthing. Everything seems fine 150 miles later.

I just put a new clutch in last weekend--it's doing the same thing. When you get about an inch or two from the floor, there's a metal on metal grinding noise. From other posts here, the problem appears to be the clutch fork hitting the pressure plate. If you depress the clutch to the point just before the noise starts, you can put the thing in gear, and the clutch is working. There's a previous post that shows pictures and tells you what areas to grind off the fork and "T" block that bolts to the trans. My question is, is it possible the fork is bent and that's why it's hitting? I've put clutches in these cars before, never had this noise.

Re: need help! major clutch problem (long)

dropped the tranny yesterday. the bolt that holds the clutch fork backed out, and the fork was rubbing on the outer most part of the pressure plate(the ring around the teeth). no major damage to any of the parts exept for the clip that goes on top of the bolt. it snagged part of the pressure plate and broke a lil piece off. no biggie though. i just cleaned everything up, put some thread lock on the bolt and away i went. so far so good now. thanks for all the input guys!
