Exclamation Need advice on rebuild or swap

This winter/spring i am planning on giving new life to my car in the transmission department. Currently i have a stock 4l60e with 118,xxx mi. on it. My question is should i rebuild it with shift kit and stall or should i do a t56 swap. From what i hear they are both within 500-1000 dollars of one another in cost.

Any advice would be helpful.

t56 will cost 800+ or - more than just taking yours out and rebuilding with a shift kit... Im at the same point right now im taking my 4l60e out right now, its toasted, so im gonna rebuilt it, possibly throw a shift kit in it, but im only hanging onto my car for another year probly then upgrading, but if your car means a lot to you and you plan on keeping it a while and want a project i would go for the t56, i was considering it but since im not keeping the car to much longer i dont think im going that route, good luck!

For me it's a no brainer, shifting can easily be dialed in on the 4L60e, and a TCI Master Racing kit w/shift kit should run you about $240 + HIPO servo and governor mod kit, might still come in under $300. Add a good stall convertor $320-$400 more. And if you want Hardened sprags etc, you can do that too. You need to get a couple of special tools tho, good snap ring pliers, a nylon ring expander/resizer and drum spring compressor. I've rebuilt a few 700r4's and they work great, not that difficult either. And you don't see many Sticks in Pro Drag Racing either, auto's get more consistent ET's even in bracket 1 & 2's...But Sticks are really fun to drive...

I'm looking for something more fun which is why i am considering the swap. What about a rebuild with a manual valve body (do they make one for 4l60E) would that be a good FUN idea or not worth it.

i had my 4l60e redune at chesepeake tranny in balt.md they are the best certified mine to 700 rwp cost me 1300.00 with the trans go kit you can down shift at any rpm no reprogram needed for that for th56 swap not only do you need trany but also crossmember, peddle setup, save cylnder, reprogram of the pcm ,and a clutch wiegh the diff. the auto is cheaper way to go and can still be a fun car to drive
