My 95 Camaro
My 95 Camaro
I bought a 95 Camaro recently and absolutly love the car, but I have had a problem with it that no one has been able to tell me why! The Transmission of this car I believe is a 700r and I wanted to know if it is suppose to be a overdrive transmission or not. I had it in the shop and the guy told me that it is only a three speed trans, and if that is correct then its the wrong transmission is in the car, my reason for asking is, that when I get in and start it in the morning, and take off, the transmission seems to work correctly from low to second the around 1900 rpms it shifts again but the rpms don't drop that much, maybe 100 rpms. After that the car seems to only take off in the middle or second gear, and if I stop and put the shifter in second which is all the way back, and shift it manually then everything seems ok, but I have not felt the car go into overdrive like my 89 camaro doe's, with all this in mind, I have changed the filter and had the trans out several times including when it was in the shop, I took it there, Amaco iwas the place, anyway I have done alot of work trying to rectify the car running hot, replaced the sensors and the radiator, and the water pump, the machanic I go to says the engines is in excellent condition, but there is something going on in the transmission, he said it works but takes off in second and doe's not drop down to the proper gear. My feeling is that the last owner had changed the trans, and this one in my car now is not the right one or maybe a shift solenoid isn't working properly. I really want to know if this car has the right trans in it, is it possible for that to be the case, with all the plugs being the right plugs and everything seems to match up. Or if it has enternal issue's that are beyond my driveway ablilitie's, with this economy I am at a loss for word or money to fix this proplem. Please help Thank You
Re: My 95 Camaro
A 95 Camaro would have a 4L60E trans if it is original. Have you scanned for codes? Sounds like a failed solenoid. Here's a list of common 4L60E issues...

Re: My 95 Camaro
So where on the tranny would I find this number to verify that I have the right one, I beleive I will be looking for another trans soon, I can't keep driving this car like this. Is the number on the side of the housing of the tranny.
