My 4l60E
Hi guys it's been a long while since i have been on.I really need some help please.
Anyway my problem started about three weeks ago. I had left a parking lot and my car would not take off in the overdrive position like it always has.By the way i have a 1994 Camaro LT1 with the 4l60E. I pull out and it was very tight and sluggish about moving. So i stopped when i got off on the side of the road and pulled it down in d2.I don't have d1 position. anyway it would not shift up again so i put it in third to get it to change.Never goes to 4th.And never downshifts to first. So far i have changed the tranny harness 1-2 shift solenoid and the 3-2 downshift solenoid which is the fault code its pulling. My trans guy said the tranny is in good shape and told me it is a pcm problem.I ignored and took it to the dealership which are the idiots that told me to get the harness which didn't work and then they said the 3-2 solenoid which also didn't work. I know it is pulling the 3-2 fault code cause both the dealer and tranny man said thats what it was throwing. But nothing has fixed the problem. Now i will tell you that the very day this happen to me is the day i jump started someones car off and have been told i probaly damaged my pcm. Now i have been driving the car like this in what they call limp home mode for 500 miles now.I know i only have 3rd gear unless i pull down to d2 then i have 2nd and third and no 1st or 4th.Also today i went to start my car and it would not start and my security light stayed on.I finally got it started but it cut off after a few seconds. Finally after several attemps to start it finally did and i drove home. Can anyone please shed some light on this.Is my tranny problem and now the vats system related some how. Please help me.Im going nuts without my ride being normal. And sorry for such a long discussion.

you might want to try another trans pcm if my memory is correct there are two pcms one motor and one trans you may have damaged the one for the trans but if i'm wrong it still sounds like a pcm problem because the pcm controls everything motor, trans, vats, a/c all that stuff
i dont think my trans controller is external from the pcm except the harness.here is my symptoms exactly on how the car is doing.
I have a 1994 Camaro with the 4l60E transmission. It will shift into 3rd all day long. No i don't have 4th gear and i have manually 2nd and sometimes 1st gear. Here is my scenarios. And there is 42,000 miles on rebuilt tranny.
1. I can pull pcm battery fuse out for about a minute and put back in or pull battery cable off and plug back up.Start car and shift to od position and car gets all forward gears including overdrive, like nothing was ever wrong.Very smooth and perfect shifts.Once i start to slow to a stop the trans never down shifts,so i then come to a complete stop.Try to take off in (OD) position and it will barley budge. It is the same in (D) position to.So i pull shifter to ((D2) postion which is the last position on my console i have no (1st) gear selector.Anyway it will take off in (2nd) gear) it does not start off in first at this point. As i am going in (2nd) rpms rise and i have to manually shift up to (3rd) at which point the rpms rise again to about 2000 at 45mph and i feel a light shift again,so smooth you can barley feel it.Once that does that i am now running 50mph at 2000rpms...it never goes in overdrive. And once i stop again the above repeats. Also while i am cruising down the road at a whopping 50mph and i have to slow down...you know not put on brake just let off the gas.Well as rpms and speed come down the rear off my car starts shaking very bad,so i have to put brake on to solve the issue.I have only let this happen twice. Now if i am cruising around still in third and start to pull a hill the trans will shift the gear on its own to let me pull. But doesnt shift down on a flat surface.
Scenario 2.It is still the same day as above,so i am driving along in my car and i stop and put car in park and turn it off.Go in a store...come back out and get in car and start it.Knowing i cant take off in (OD) position i pull shifter to (D2)proceed down road and it now has first gear and shifts to 2nd by itself.I then have to shift up to 3rd again and it shifts.rpms rise car shifts with that small light shift at about 45mph 2000rpms and now i am back at 50mph 2000rpms.Never no Overdrive though.I come to another stop and once again it doesnt down shift, stays in (3RD). I have to pull shifter back to (D2) position to get moving again.Only now i dont have 1ST...only 2ND.Push up to 3rd and back to driving like a granny again.I have been driving this way for 800 miles already.
It was pulling a 3-2 downshift code 84.Out of money right now to have it tested again.
Things i have had told to me that was wrong and have replaced and has not fixed my problem.
1. 1-2 shift solenoid i replaced thinking it was the problem before i took car somewhere.
2.I took to tranny shop. They said it was pulling code 84 3-2 downshift fault. They checked it and said was fine and i needed a pcm.
3.I took it to dealership. They said i needed an internal harness.Replaced that. Then they said i need a 3-2 downshift solenoid cause they pulled the same code.Replaced that.No luck.
4th got a pcm out of a 1995 Buick Roadmaster with the same Service number cause i was told as long as the service number was the same it could be reprogrammed for my car.Had it reprogrammed at dealership. No change.
5.Put my pcm back in and took back to dealership. They kept it for a few days and said there scanner would not work on it now.I feel at this point i have been lied to cause they said before it pulled the code 84.
6. Bought a Vehicle Speed Sensor as someone told me it could be that.No fix.
What else can cause this code 84 or my shifting problems???I am at a total loss.

ok ive got a set of factory service manuals for 1995 and according to them the code 84 is 3-2 control solenoid circuit fault the code parameters are :at high duty cycle, the circuit voltage high OR at low duty cycle the circuit voltage is low for 4 seconds its default actions are 3rd gear only and a soft landing to 3rd gear thats what the book says ill do some more research and see what i come up with but it sounds like a wiring issue could a wire in the main harness have chaffed and shorted out i know its a pain checking the wiring on some of that stuff but its a thought and hears a stupid question is it full of fluid ? its stupid to ask but you never know hope that helps some
Yes the fluid is full.It has a new internal harness and a new 3-2 shift solenoid.I guess im going to have to check the external harness completely. If i could just figure out why i have 1st gear when i first start the car and then it is gone as soon as i come to a stop sign,i would probaly find my overdrive problem to.
