Motive or Strange?

Trying to decide which gearset company to buy from.........

Strange is just a smidge more expensive, but possibly stronger?
I've heard Motive gears are quieter though.

Pro?
Cons?

Thanks.

Re: Motive or Strange?

Jeez.......I actually posted that in the General Tech Section and it had to get moved.

I'm such a dumass.
You would think it was my first day here.
Trouble is - I've been here long enough to remember a time when we didn't have a "Drivetrain" forum, so I'm not used to using it.

Thanks for the helping hand Moderators!

......I feel like a newb.

Re: Motive or Strange?

I was wondering the same thing, I was gonna pick up the gear kit that thunderracing sells. Which gears should I get?? Are the strange gears really worth $35 more???

Re: Motive or Strange?

I have a set of Motive 4.10's. They are used, but have never been in my car. I also have the stud kit to strengthen the rear and the Thunder Racing cover. However, a tremendous deal just came up for a new engine that will shred the rear and I will have to go with a full rear end change. So my stuff is for sale.

Also, most of the shims in the shim kit. I will sell this all to you if you're interested. I'm not planning on putting it all in then changing out the rear end when the new motor is finished. I only want to deal with it once.

Re: Motive or Strange?

That package from ThunderRacing is the same kit that I was looking at buying.

Seems like a good deal.

I have a con of Motive Gears. My old, shredded pinion is siting outside rusting after 3 1/2 years of use. I switched to Strange 3.73s, and they are noisy as hell.

Re: Motive or Strange?

I just received my gears. I got them from Thunder Racing. I think it was like $476 for the package deal with the deluxe install kit. I have not installed them yet probably by Saturday they will be in. Going from 2.73's to 3.73's. I can't wait!!!

Re: Motive or Strange?

The ring and pinion are NOT new. I bought them from a friend who went to something else and have never had them on my car. The stud kit is brand new bought at Thunder Racing. The rear end cover is brand new bought at Thunder Racing and has their logo in it instead of the T/A logo. The shims are the ones left over from the original owner's install.

How 'bout $325 plus shipping?

Re: Motive or Strange?

Wow. Just a straight out "NO" without even a counter offer. I'm crushed!

Re: Motive or Strange?

I would rather have new ones anyway. Plus the thunderracing kit includes all the fluids I need as well. Sorry.

Re: Motive or Strange?

I've done some research into the two kinds of fluid offered by the ThunderRacing package and have come up with: They are pretty much the same.

I guess it comes down to color.

I'll be picking the RedLine - because I have a red car.
And because purple is for woman and homosexuals.
