Moser 9" question
Moser 9" question
So im looking at them and noticed they ask if your car is a auto or manual. Does this mean i need to tell them what the car originally was? Or what it has now? Or does it even matter because it was a 6-speed but now have the th350 So im at a dead end right now.
Any help would be awesome
Thanks

Re: Moser 9" question
What website asks you for the vehicle transmission type for a cnventional 9-inch? I don't see that question on the Moser website or on a vendor website like Thunder Racing.
Or are you looking at a M9 fabricated model? That has a custom torque arm setup with a front body mount, and they probably need to know what trans you are using so they know what cross-member they are dealing with.

Re: Moser 9" question
Are you looking at a conventional stamped housing, or are you looking at the M9 sheetmetal fabricated housing?
I see on the conventional, they have a "transmission lookup" field, but that (along with the "gear ratio calculator") is just to allow you to check the trans gear ratios so you can determine what rear axle gear ratio you might want to seletct.
On the Moser website, they only ask about the transmission type for the M9 fabricated rear.

i get to this part here and this is were it asks

not sure if its the conventional one or not.

Re: Moser 9" question
But nothing in the selection of the two rears changes. It doesn't matter which trans you choose. The two choices have different axle spline counts. Nothing to do with the trans.
And that is a conventional, stamped steel housing. The M9 is a unit fabricated out of sheet metal. But that one does require transmission data, because of the custom torque arm mount.
Just curious - why did you choose the 9-inch over the 12-bolt or the Dana 60?

Re: Moser 9" question
Well I been pricing them all out. I was told by a few members i wish i could remember there names. that the dana 60 was as street friendly as the 9 or 12 bolt. But i havent decided which i wanted yet. I was just price checking. which do you recommend for street/strip?
Re: Moser 9" question
For the mod's in your signature, a 12-bolt is more than adequate. Weighs less, has better efficiency than the 9-bolt, does not drop the height of the pinion shaft and offset it to one side of the car, causing clearance problems in the tunnel, and adding wear to the u-joints. The Dana has better efficiency than the 12-bolt but carries a weight penalty. For what you are doing, the 9-inch would be my last choice.
Re: Moser 9" question
I'd go with 33-spline count. In the 9-inch, that affects your choice of differential. My preference is the traditional Eaton posi, but I don't think you can get that in a 9-inch with 33 and up-slpine axles. You don't want a spool for the street. I personally wouldn't recommend a locker for the street. So with the 9-inch, I don't know what other choices they offer.
Re: Moser 9" question
Im sorry I dont want to feel dumb. But this is all new to me and i have no clue with half of the stuff you said are you recommending the 12 bolt or no. Just need some clarification because I dont know if the 12 bolt is a spool or a locker or if its neither.
