Moser 9" install problem...
the additive is to quiet the gear whine.
it doesn't really concern me how much oil you put in your rear end, i was just trying to help. i know what i know, half these guys are just guessing.
and no, i didn't install the oil, i was right there when he did tho. but what does that have to do with whether or not i should argue with someone who has?
you guys keep saying "well it's so much bigger". but everything inside the rear-end is bigger too, making the clearances smaller, making less room for oil.
looks like these hot rodders are telling this guy to add 2 quarts + 4 oz of limited slip additive
but....go ahead, top it off

In reality there is no point for me to argue something I already have done. Why is it that Moser recommends 4 quarts of oil? Also when you run a brand new engine why do you think it requires adding more oil. For example if my LT1 calls for 5 quarts then why is it when the motor is dry (meaning there is absolutely not a spec of oil in the motor) you may need 5.5 quarts? Keep thinking about it.
Furthermore the additive is for the posi. The way you make it sound is that "Posi-additive" can be used in rearend regardless of it being a posi or locker. MOSER does not recommend running posi additive when you go with a Detroit Locker. But then again what does Moser know.
Have a nice day.
And one last bit of fuel for the fire.
Screw you and your "guessing crap" This is what I do for a living.
You know what you know by watching someone else. I know what I know from doing. Next time know who your talking to before you run off at the mouth.
Sorry to **** on the thread. Sounds like you were filling it thru the vent hole. Sorry about that, wish I would have known that sooner, would have saved you some grief. Just for fun, be sure and post up how much it actually takes

show me where moser says to use 4 quarts. you say they recommend 4 quarts, but yours only took 3? well, from what your saying moser DOESN'T know what they're talking about.
oh and dreamer1q, in one of your posts earlier you said
"If you did a 9 inch, then I am sure you seen the SIZE difference in the rear ends. It is blatently obvious that it would take more then 2 quarts. And you would only need a bottle of limited slip additive if you are using a GM style posi, which last time I looked wasnt available for a 9 inch. I had to go with a posi made by Trutrac and then do some grinding on it to make it fit. I dont suggest you use only 2 quarts, and the additive is not needed unless your carrier unit specifcally requires it."
now you're saying ONLY a detroit locker doesn't require it? which is it?
I can not find the sheet that came with my rearend so I just got off the phone with Moser. The tech told me to basically start filling it until it came out the fill hole. He said that the amount of oil the rearend will take is dependant on the width of the housing. He also stated the average rearend will take 3 quarts of oil. You should start monitoring it after putting in 2.5 quarts.
Sorry to burst your bubble but you are wrong. Do not come on here and tell people they are wrong until you have some experience with the product. Honestly alot of people on this board are knowledgeable. No need to come on here and insult their experience. You are a prime example of an internet expert.

okay, i could easily go back and edit all my posts and just say that i build 9 inch rearends for a living. and/or that i just got off the phone with moser and they told me 2 quarts.
funny how your story keeps changing, first you say they told you 4 quarts, now you're saying 2.5 - 3 quarts?
which is it big guy?
there are a lot of people on here that are knowledgeable. but there's also a lot of people that just go by what they've read, "flowmasters sucks", or "you have to rebuild LS1s after 100,000 miles".
and i DO have expirence with the product. i physically helped lift the rearend into the car, bolted it up, held it in place...etc. and i helped change the oil after the initial break-in.
sorry to burst YOUR bubble, mr. 4 quarts.
maybe you should get your story straight before you come on here and insult me.

The comments are getting too personal. It's one thing to say "your idea sucks". It's another to say "YOU suck". If you guys can't understand the difference, take it to PM's or email.
