McLeod Street Twin Internal Balance??

I just got a McLeod Street twin 64022-1A-07 clutch. I am wondering about seting it up for internal balance. Do I just remove the weight on the back of the flywheel? Thanks. Also, if anybody has this clutch, how do you like it?

Removing the weight should get it pretty close. If you want to be sure, the only way to do so is to have it checked. The ST is the best clutch out there for an LT1, great clutch. Takes a few hundred miles to break in though.

Have it checked at a machine shop. I just went through this ended up removing the tranny twice. After the weight was off it still vibrated and sure enough it was off. Get it checked they dont come nuetrally balanced.

Not to mention the freakin throw out bearing is now crap on my 50 mile clutch. Needless to say Mcleod is on my S*** list. I havent been able to drive my new 383 at all because of this BS

Re: McLeod Street Twin Internal Balance??

I bought this clutch to install in an engine/tranny swap into a '77 Camaro. The engine is a '95 LT1/T56. Just to make sure I'm doing this right, I should take it apart and take the flywheel to have it zero balanced because it isn't that way now. Don't want to screw this project up now. Too much money and time invested already. I'm actually glad I saw this post b/c I thought it already was zero balanced considering the part # was for an LT1. (also L98)
Thanks,

Bryan

Re: McLeod Street Twin Internal Balance??

If it's for an LT1 it will not be neutral balanced (unless ordered that way). It's easy enough to tell. If there is a weight, it is externally balanced. The stock LT1 is external balanced at the rear.

Thanks Rich, I looked on McLeods website, and they do give a different part number for the neutral balance kit. S***!! Too bad summit isn't a little more descriptive.

Talk with McLeod about the part numbers. It's my understanding the the weight is a bolt-on design, so therefore it can be unbolted for neutral balance applications. I agree it's cheap insurance to have the balance checked before installation.

Ugh flywheel balancing blows, i put my motor in w/o even thinking about the stupid stock flywheel. I had to pull it out to get the flywheel neutral balanced b/c it was vibrating so bad. Let me know how you like the ST, ill probably be getting one if my spec goes out, since im at the track so much

My flywheel WILL be checked after reading this thread! No matter what! Cheap insurance. I DON'T want to do anything twice. It's hard enough to find the time to do it the first time.

How do you know if your flywheel and what not are vibrating? I just had my ST installed professionally last week and sometimes in the morning when its cool out I hear what sounds like metal clanking, but it goes away when the car warms up. Is that good or bad?

1. No, you need to ake it to a shop and have them neutral balance it. A friend of mine (Jason Short) had this same problem: ran our Street Twins with the unbolted weight. Vibes like crazy.

2. Love it! It is a beast. One of the only "I could tell a difference" mods.

Yes, if your stroker is "zero" or "neutral" balance.
