Mcleod single or Spec stage 3+ ????

I am installing a complete LE2 head/cam/intake combo on my 96 TA-LT1, and will have ALL supporting mods reccomended. I have the block out, and it would be rediculous not to replace my 73k smoked stock clutch. So, with no $$$$ left for the Mcleod twin disc, my 2 options are the Mcleod single disc or the Spec stage 3+. They are about the same price. Does anyone have any experience with either or both of these setups? Which should I get? The Mcleod seems to come in a single street and a single performence models. I am not interested in any other brands or models, I have narrowed my search to these 2. I have heard mixed results with the Spec stage 3 but I have heard good thing about the stage 3+????? Also, who has the best pricing on these 2? Can I reuse my slave cylinder until I get some more $$$, maybe a couple months?? Any risk or disadvantage??

BTW, my car is a weekend only car(2k miles per year), made to be fun and fast! I am in the metro are of Chicago so there will be some stop and go.
Thanks for you input.

stage 3 i like it but , you must turn the fly wheel and add a new pilot bearing ,at firts heavy chater put about 30 or so miles on it and smooths right out , it scard the crap out of me like i did some- thing wrong putting it back together. thats how much it shook at first [ stock petal feal and no clutch fade

I've been doing a LOT of research on clutches recently, and finally decided on the Spec 4 for the following reasons:

1. 50% of reviews I read on the stage 3 were NOT positive, and many having to do with springs popping out.

2. 100% of the reviews of the stage 4 (solid hub - no springs) were positive, with many saying it drives as well as or better than the stage 3.

I didn't research the McLeod option that indepth, but I rarely hear anything bad about them.

I have the SPEC III (not 3+) and so far all is well (about 5000 km on it), but if I had to do it over again I would go with the stage IV for the reasons urbanhunter44 pointed out.

Im not sure if the single will be strong enough, you may want to look into the twin disc. It will not be as fun to drive around in traffic but if you plan to take the car to the track ever it may be a good choice. Have you looked into RAM? RAM isn't really too popular but I havent heard anything bad about them yet either. I know that their HD model can handle 500hp so that would be another option too. I know everyone is skeptical about spec because of their problems/issues but what was said about their stage 4 is true. If your looking at them I wouldn't buy the stage 3, go for the 4 or nothing. good luck

Thanks guys for all you input.

John35thSS, hows the 3+ for break in, any chatter now or in the begining for stop and go driving?. How many miles do you have on it?

I am now also considering the Ram powergrip and powergrip HD, but on their site it states that there will be some chatter on takeoff??? It's concerning to me that they find it necessary to forwarn you of this. Honesty or a CYA(cover your A$$) disclaimer???

Where is the pilot bearing, is this the throwout bearing? Also, I hear people talking about the clutch master cylinder seperate from the slave cylinder, Where is the clutch master cylinder?
Does anything need to be blead on the LT1 clutch install?

Thanks again.

With most clutches your gonna have some chatter, some hardly notice it and some dont care and some dont have any. Them telling you that it will have some chatter is being honest and its normal to have some chatter sometimes it goes away after you put a few miles sometimes the chatter is a less. Since i drive my car once in a while i didnt care if it had chatter.

RPWS6, I took it easy for 1 tank of fuel then beat the crap out of it.
Now have 2 track days and all last season and this spring on clutch, drives like a stock clutch except for higher pedal pressure. I am very happy with spec 3+ and I still have my mcloud twin on the shelf as a spare.
