McLeod Single disc vs. Spec 3
McLeod Single disc vs. Spec 3
I've just finished up the mods in my sig.--expecting 400+ rwhp. I still have my stock clutch so I know I'm on borrowed time. Just curious how these 2 clutches compare. I plan on keeping the 10 bolt as long as I can, so the Street Twin is probably out of the question. This is a street, not a track car so I'm looking for driveability--don't want an "instant on" clutch. Any opinions would be appreciated!

ttt
Thought I would get a little "aggressive" today getting into 2nd, stock clutch didn't like it
--now it's slipping pretty bad. Could really use some advice...

Thanks for the reply,
Throughout my rebuild, I always planned on getting a Stage 3, but I've read a fair amount of posts where people have had spring failures. How's the clutch around town? Can you slip it at all or is it more of an on/off deal? Finally, does it engage real high on the pedal? Thanks

Re: McLeod Single disc vs. Spec 3
Well it sure takes some getting used too, i dont think the chatter is as bad as some people let on. Its probably the new design that helps there.
Yeah it is pretty much an on/off but i have gotten used to it and it doesnt bother me anymore. If it was stop and go traffic it would get very old, so i guess it depends on your location. Mine engages very close to stock height, i actually didnt even notice a difference, so to answer that question it engages pretty low on my car. Hope that helps.

Re: McLeod Single disc vs. Spec 3
I recommend the Mcleod single disk.
I had the Mcleod for about 2 years pushing 500+rwhp with no problems. It didnt start slipping till I started spraying and was pushing over 600hp. Then I switched over to the Spec stage 3 which held the power but drivabilitly SUCKED big time. I finally pulled that thing out and did what I should have done all along...get the street twin.

You guys that talk about how "driveability" is poor on the spec III need to learn how to drive it, i can take off smoothly every time, there is a little bit of give in it and it is not totally an on/off switch, my car dosen't make huge power but i have hot laped it 3 times at the track on bfg Dr's and it bit just as hard the 3rd time as the first.

Let your girlfriend or one of you friends that dont drive it everyday drive it and you will see how poor the drivability is.
Re: McLeod Single disc vs. Spec 3
yea, i'm the only person that really drives my car so it dosen't really matter, a few of my friends have driven it and it was kinda funny. Once you get used to it it isn't really that bad, just as long as you don't hit a 1 1/2 hour traffic jam like i did once, that wasn't too fun.
Re: McLeod Single disc vs. Spec 3
hmm--CJ makes a good point. Go with Spec 3, wife can't drive my 400RWHP baby--longer life of my car..... Think I'm sold on the Spec 3
. All kidding aside, think I'm going with the spec--I may be adding more power down the road. I'm going to order it next week--plan on installing it myself. Any tips would be appreciated

Re: McLeod Single disc vs. Spec 3
If I were you I'd go with the Spec Stage 4. The stage 3 has the sprung disc and they are prone to fall out. Stage 4 doesnt have any springs at all and from what I hear, it drives the same as a Stage 3. Just some words from experience..
