Hello guys..

I got my ST all unasembled from the machine shop that got it balanced... IS there any way to check how the shims go??? are there any install PDFs around?

Thanks

I can try to explain the way mine was. I assume you are talking about the shims for the idler. The shims actually go between the flywheel and idler. McLeod states that you need to have .020-.025 between the inner clutch disc (one closest to the flywheel) and the flywheel itself. Mine was set up with a thick shim and two thin shims for each of the bolt holes (3 total). Either way, take a feeler gauge and with the idler and first disc installed, stick it in between the flywheel and clutch disc. I used both the .020" shim and .025" shim and made sure it slid in all around the clutch disc just slightly snugly, then stuck the clutch alignment tool in there and spun the disc to make sure it still spun freely with the feeler gauge removed (mine did). From there, I just followed the directions to bolt the pressure plate and second disc on. Everything worked out great and the clutch is working well. Good luck.

I numbered mine and put them back exactly as they came out. I am almost positive thay they MUST go back in the same place EXACTLY they came out. i would call MC and find out just to be safe.

Well... I did it this way... the pressure plate is already installed but is something i can double check now that i have the break...

mine had 2 thick shims and one thin shim... i will check.. .best way is to remove the pressure plate and see if the inner disc "more or less" freely rotates.. the problem is... to much space and it will slip, too little and the trans will not engage.

i guess what i'll do is measure it with a vernier caliper and check.
