manuel shifting a auto

i have a 96 camaro LT1 i manuel shift it all the time, i have a shift kit in it, but im not sure if im doing damage by shifting manually does anyone know ?

no, you're not. it might actually be better due to increased line pressure.

There have been several threads on this topic. Here is the general conclusion that these threads usually come to:

1). It's better to let the automatic transmission shift itself. The computer shifts faster then us so just let it do its job.

2). If you're going to shift it manually the safest way is going up. So if you are at a light and put it in 1 then manually shift to 2 and 3 it's relatively safe to the transmission as long as you shift before hitting the rev limiter

3). Downshifting a 4L60E is BAD! This is the point that most tranny experts seem to agree on. Downshifting causes alot of unnecassary wear and tear.

Personally I have always believed that anyone who wants to shift thier car should either get a T56 or a TH350/400 with reverse manual valve body.
