Manually downshifting?
I did a search on it already and didn't find the answers I was looking for so I thought I'd try here. What I want to do is autox my car but with the a4 I'm worried about a downshift coming out of a corner puting me in a powerslide and possibly spining my car. What I wanted to know is if I manually downshifted to the gear I wanted to exit the corner in would I harm the transmission. I know that manually downshifting can burnup the overrun clutches but if I do it while slowing down would it harm anything? Thanks for any info.

Yes, downshifting even while slowing down will burn the overrun clutches up. I did it ever so often in mine and they went out last August and now the tranny slips badly if too much power is applied. I've been nursing it along since then and will be doing a M6 swap this spring, I have all th parts, just waiting on warmer weather.
If I were you and was into AutoX, I'd definatly switch to a M6.
