m6/t56 guys that lauched the 10 bolt on slicks 4500+

Ok here is the deal, some are going to say this is crazy, but try to refrain and only post if you have done it, or seen it done. I want to try to make a hailmarry pass at the end of the drag season if possible. I have a stock 10 bolt with motive 4.10's. If I get to make the pass, and the rear breaks, I will buy a 12 bolt. Have any of you guys had sucessful 4500+ clutch dump launches on full slicks with the stock 10 bolt (aftermarket gears are ok)? I would basically like to rev it to 5000, and let it rip (-rip- might stand for rest in peace :-).

Re: m6/t56 guys that lauched the 10 bolt on slicks 4500+

lol, go or blow! Go out with a bang... i could go on and on

But seriously, a good buddy w/ a 94 Z28 m6 10-bolt(3.73) and slicks launches his at 3K and it usually lasts around 10-20 passes... sometimes only 1 or 2 but it does last one...

Another buddy w/ a 98 TA m6 10-bolt(3.73) and slicks tried 3K and get some binding and later strong noises from rear, but it still moved.. he tried one more launch and he got 20-30 feet out and it let lose... bad... we think its completly no good...

That doesn't really help your question... but if you had 3.42s (more meat on gears) you might have a chance.. 4.11s your asking a bit much from that 10-bolt

GO FOR IT!

lol blew two 10 bolts on just radials launching at 3k -

my other buddy has gone through 6 in the past year with just radials as well ( works for a shop and managed to collect 8 as spares )

i say go for it and film it-

ha- heres my first blown rear- http://media.putfile.com/first-passe...season---hires (3.42s at the time)
the red camaro is my buddy, he blew his on the launch too and just kept peddling it to the end.( his car runs a 12.1 if it holds together. ) -my first two runs were just getting a feel for the car and then i decided to throw the radials on her and see what i could do....

- we both got flatbedded home...

i dunno.. i'm a conservative kind of guy. i wouldn't grenade it until i already had the 12-bolt sitting in my garage. hell i probably wouldn't do that either since i could sell the 10-bolt and get some cash.

Don't side-step it and slip it just a little bit and it might last. If you side step it and you hook, don't plan on making it past the 60'.

Re: m6/t56 guys that lauched the 10 bolt on slicks 4500+

i was at a local track first time running the MT et street slicks. I was cutting 2.12 60ft times and this guy comes up and was all, what are you launching at. I said 3 dumping it. He goes "what's ur gear" i say 2.73 and he says, try something around 4200 and dump. I do. instant 2.02 60ft and my best et so far. I tried more and it didn't like it too much.

the point is, i have about 15 passes on my stock 88000 mile 10 bolt with slicks dumped at 4000+ (its hard to be real consistent with rpm launches that high without electronics) it doesn't even wine. Though, one side spins noticeably more than the other. (it turned the tired on the rim about an inch on that side, while the other didn't move)

and now because of all this, the next time i launch will probably be the last for it.

those 60's are a bit high for ET STREETS dumping at 4k ....... i've cut a 2.2/2.1 on a regular street tire with no suspension mods.....

****EDIT- k saw it was your first time with them... nevermind

slip it some...and keep the thicker stock gears and you can go 1.5 consistantly...everybody around here does...

Re: m6/t56 guys that lauched the 10 bolt on slicks 4500+

kingman109:

My clutch was slipping quite a bit too. I'd shift into second and the tach would go right up to 5 grand and sit there untill the clutch finally gripped and then it would drop to about 4600 and start going again. same for third gear, though not as bad. I really do think that my car should be quicker than it is with all that it has, a 13.72 with 2.02 at 101 with slicks, a stock car with an exhaust should be able to put that et out with a good driver. although i do have a 2.73 gear which doesn't help. I go through the traps in 3rd gear at about 5600. I don't even think about 4th. Sry to kinda steal this thread though.

i blew my 10 bolt hitting the gas hard from a 1st gear roll...it all kinda depends....i know a guy who broke his backing out the garage. For one pass, you should be ok...just make sure your taping it

I tried the same thing you're describing you want to do, but it was on the street. I bolted on a set of 27" ET Streets to try some sticky tires out on the street. Well, within 20 minutes my 10-bolt was broken.

Re: m6/t56 guys that lauched the 10 bolt on slicks 4500+

no actually many local guys around here with autos are, 2 come to mind 1 with 3.42 other with 3.23, both with 383 strokers both leave on 150 and back it with another 150...3.23 car runs 6.40 in the 1/8 consistantly in the 1.40-1.45 range@3700 pounds...other with 3.42 consistantly about the same everything but about 3400 pounds...with rear end covers and eaton posi units..

i myself have stock 10 bolt...3.73 stock cover stock posi run 1.60-1.64 on motor and 1.52-1.56 on 100 shot(hitting it about 10 feet out)...ten bolts can hold up and ive heard stories but you have to preload the shock is what kills them...
